The Burrowing Owl is a champion of facial expressions. How many birds can look utterly clueless one moment and peeved beyond measure the next? These tiny owls are also unusual in that they hunt during the day, and live in burrows that they either dig themselves or take over from prairie dogs, ground squirrels, or tortoises.
