California Condor

I stand along Pacific Highway 1, drowning in the defiance radiating from the California Condor’s red eyes. Defiance. There is no other word for the force that radiates from the wild condor’s eyes. I recognize that I am looking into the soul of a being that has challenged fate and won, that is invincible in its eternal mark on the world. The mighty bird circles a single peak, eclipsing the sun with each pass, its sky-dance one that rejoices in its freedom as its great wings carry it triumphantly through the California skies that are its birthright.
