It is hard to imagine, but Monarch butterflies migrate- a LONG way! Monarchs that hatch at the end of summer will overwinter in warm habitats before returning north in the spring to lay their eggs. Monarchs east of the Rocky Mountains can travel 3,000 miles to Central Mexico, where they will roost in fir forests. Along their journey, Monarchs will congregate in amazing roosts of dozens of butterflies. A tree hosting a groups of Monarchs looks like a tree blanketed in fluttering orange flowers.
